However, tonight there were no conga drums, but gazillions of Jay-Z people and fans and… us. Us being the up-and-coming fashion designer Lilia and her possé of assistants, photographers, models, hair and makeup. The designer is so fresh that she has not made her website yet, so I cannot give you the link.

Her brand is called Fuchsia – just like the color. I will provide the info as soon as she is up and running, because this chick creates really beautiful dresses that are both fantastic comfy to wear, make you look like a million Euros (sorry Americans…!), has perfect finish and are not over prized. A truly rare combination.

Tonight I was opening the fashion show and sporting 2 different dresses. One hot pink and one peach. Both in pure silk.

Per se I’m fine with the fact that the desert road has been exchanged with the catwalk for 3 days. Had enough of the dust, expensive car repairs (3,400 usd so far!!!) and the farmer tan I was sporting. But I can’t help, but wonder what the hell happened to my modeling retirement plan? Ha ha… ;-)

On a different note, I just got some really, really cool styles in this morning from Object that I want to share with you later. I’m crazy about the broad 80’s shoulders, the short skirts, the cropped jackets, gloves and all the zippers. I just need to shoot them and I’ll post it right here. Here’s a taste…

This year’s Spring 2009 Couture collections are divided into two categories, wearable counture and princess ready-aimed towards those fashionistas who feel they were princesses in their past lives (me being one of them) The fairy tale effect of couture fashion is an escape that is needed this year more than ever and the collections most definitely deliver.

]]> http://www.lelamoda.com/2009/01/30/photos-of-the-day-chanel-is-the-icing-on-the-cake/feed/ 0 New York Fashion Week-back to basics!!! http://www.lelamoda.com/2009/01/09/new-york-fashion-week-back-to-basics/ http://www.lelamoda.com/2009/01/09/new-york-fashion-week-back-to-basics/#comments Fri, 09 Jan 2009 17:16:51 +0000 le la Moda http://www.lelamoda.com/?p=1332 Fashion week anywhere in the world happens to be my favorite holiday.  In New York designers normally show at the iconic Bryant Park location.  Even in this frugal economy designers find the money in their fancy wallets or the financial backing to put on a glamorous spectacle, despite the supposed bad times.  Last year I have already overheard from certain lips that that this or that designers just does not have the money to show at Bryant Park, or anywhere for that matter.  A show at Bryant Park can cost 100,000 and higher.  That seems like a ridiculous number to pay out at this time, only imagine clicking your Christian Louboutins on the city cement passing by the homeless or newspaper stand full of more bad news, while happily attending one of the shows.  As plastic as le la Moda is there is just something wrong about that.   

This year, designers such as Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson have pulled out of doing the show at Bryant Park, deciding instead on a more modest but just as glamorous location.  Cacharel has also announced that he will not going showing in Paris and the numbers are increasing.  The showing of a collection in a less than mainstream location reminds me of Chanel.   The bad economy is most definitely not a pleasant treat for the fashion industry and their accountants, however going back to the basics and concentrating on the designs for once just might inspire the rest of us. I respect those designers who have made the decision to not show off but instead just show us the work.

Although I seem to have missed this piece of news it should not surprise anyone.  When having a closer look at the Spring 2009 fashion shows yellow was taken down the runway as if it was going out of style. The color is one of my favorite, however it seems overdone to me.  Regardless of what I think it has been named the color of Spring/Summer 2009 by Pantone, who is the global authority on color.  PANTONE(R) 14-0848, Mimosa is a very warm hue which just might represent the ever needed sun for the fashion community and the world after a very hopeless fall/winter.  I would not dare to wear it now as it might be too bright. If you dare to go there, match it with other solids that do not clash, just make sure there are no fashion incidents to cry over later.  Spring/Summer just cannot come soon enough.    Images via Style.com-Versace and John Galliano
