There is no question Manolo Blahnik understands women and looking at his interviews he can pretty much make anyone comfortable.  This could be as a result of his laid back Canary Islands upbringing and being a great mix of Czech and Spanish.  The two mesh very well together.  The advice Manolo has gotten from Diana Vreeland is probably the best he could have ever received, as a result the Manolos were born.  Sex and the City would never be the same without them. 

Columnist Vanessa Friedman of the Financial Times has had the pleasure of lunching with Manolo Blahnik in Milan.  Being a true gentleman he pulls up a chair for her and starts  being the  character he is and I adore.  Lucky Vanessa, this could happen only in my wildest dreams.  They discuss the economy and its effects on the different levels of fashion and industry as a whole.  My favorite quote of all the lunch talk?  There are too many, everything Manolo states is a classic.  Sometimes it is wild and sometimes understated, but always in fashion. 

“Don’t do shoes! Do hats!’ And the shoes are so strange, so vulgar. I hate these platforms that are all over the place today; they are all about grabbing attention. They are suburban! I never do a platform. Well, I did, in the 1970s, but that was a bad experience.”

Handbags have always been my first love, each time I see one so luscious just staring at me I tell myself, yes I can live without you, but I just don’t want to.  My heart skips a beat and I might as well have blinders on because the handbag is all I see. I believe if a man gives me that feeling, I am hooked. 

I can admit the love of handbags to myself, however I have never been able to admit I love shoes just as much. This season, sadly no handbag has captured my imagination, but to little or no surprise at all, shoes have captured my heart. There are shoes you see and want to scream ”Hello Lover,” just like Carrie did in Sex and the City.  To lust after these might as well be a sin in this economy, but the stories they could tell if I can only take them for a walk onto the city cement could be worth it.  I might just look and shop around, but I cannot promise I will stay faithful, after all the handbags are just not providing me with the fantasy I need this season.
